Launching a Tribute to an Icon, Mentor & Friend
Last May, we lost Henri A. Termeer, an icon of the biotech industry and visionary leader who was the spark that ignited a focus on rare diseases. Henri’s commitment to the global rare disease community, and the company he led, Genzyme, gave hope to millions of patients and their loved ones. And Genzyme’s efforts inspired the work of countless other companies in rare diseases.
Today, we are thrilled to launch the Henri A. Termeer Tribute Committee – a group of biotechnology industry leaders who have come together to honor Henri’s legacy and celebrate his many contributions to a thriving industry that he helped build. Through the Henri A. Termeer Tribute, and with the support of dozens of individuals, organizations and private companies, we are working to erect a life-size statue of Henri on a plaza in Cambridge, Massachusetts that will soon be renamed as Termeer Square. Funds will also be used to maintain the work and setting in perpetuity, as well as for potential extensions of this endeavor to honor Henri’s legacy in the future.
If you would like to make a contribution to the Tribute effort, you may do so here or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Contributions are being collected by the MassBioEd Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and will be earmarked for the Henri A. Termeer Tribute.
